... Cuesta's work highlights, first of all, his mastery of using color, the ease with which he combines and arranges them to create large surfaces full of strength and harmony. Secondly, the textures that he achieves are surprising, using fillings, lines and transparencies together with various materials: paper or cardboard, until creating complex compositions in which different layers are superimposed that show, although it seems unheard of, a great lightness.

These two characteristics mean that Cuesta's work is on the wave of two great painters of current abstraction. In the use of color, he reminds me of the English artist Howard Hodking, of whom we Madrid have recently been able to see a large exhibition at the Reina Sofía Art Center. In the textures and searches for transparencies, in the use of layers and the dripping and wide brushstroke, Cuesta recalls the German Gerhard Richter, one of the greatest artists of this century who uses multiple languages in his creations ...
